British Sea Power ‘Cleaning Out The Rooms’

The final modelling of the base is done, before beginning to paint the diorama:

And a final fitting-together of all the pieces, in order to double-check that everything would assemble properly:

In the event, I had to tweak a few things – and had to change the steps from the original design, because they overpowered the scene. I have to admit feeling a bit of trepidation about beginning to paint this – but purposely intend to undertake some of the more challenging methods/techniques, such as colour harmony, and non-metallic metals, in order to break out of my personal comfort-zone a bit.

Wipers ‘taking too long’

I’ve made fairly swift progress with the base for this diorama (by my standards, at least) – creating a mock-up has proven really useful and helpful. The fulcrum is made from a juice bottle top, along with plastic sprues, cork, and the various other odds and ends used to decorate the panelling:

A step-by-step gallery of constructing the actual platform – mainly made using styrene sheet, embroidery board (the plastic kind), and balsa wood; plus detailing added with chicken wire, and textured plasticard (this can be very expensive – modelling putty is an alternative, albeit a bit more difficult to use):

Shudder To Think ‘Red House’

A brief step-by-step gallery of constructing the Thing – a slight homage to the one which featured in John Carpenter’s movie of the same name:
